Make your outdoor wedding extra special this year

Getting married alfresco offers up a chance to make your big day truly unique. With an outdoor wedding set against a whimsical landscape or seascape, you’ll have more space and scope to bring your dream day to life. The only downside is Britain’s changeable weather, but if you plan ahead then no amount of bad weather will dampen your spirits on your magical day.

To help with your outdoor wedding planning, we’ve shared our top five considerations if you’re thinking about saying ‘I do’ in the fresh air:

Choose your outdoor wedding location wisely: It seems obvious but check that you can have an outdoor ceremony in the location you’re after. In England and Wales, an outdoor ceremony must be held in a permanent structure, whether that is an outbuilding, gazebo or beach hut – a wedding by the sea, how lovely!

Prepare for changeable weather: Unpredictable weather can make even the fair weathered amongst us nervous, especially on a wedding day. You don’t want to have to worry about anything other than getting beautified on the day so think about what your wet weather option might be in advance. The location or venue you’ve chosen may be able to offer assistance, or you might need to consider hiring in something yourself.

Keep guests happy: You want your day to be memorable for all the right reasons and keeping guests happy is part of that. If you’re going to be outside for any length of time, you could consider having blankets, warm drinks and snacks for your guests. Or, if they’re going to be standing for any length of time, suggest they wear flat shoes – a simple but effective remedy.

Photography will capture those forever moments: We might be a bit biased but good wedding photography will ensure that all your happy memories of the day live on for years and years to come. Striking up a rapport with your photography or videographer will ensure that the exact style you want is captured, as well as those extra special once-in-a-lifetime-moments.

Don’t forget to get creative: Having an outdoor wedding gives you the freedom to get as creative as you’d like, whether that be with decorations, the food that’s served or even the wedding games played. Giant Jenga and BBQ food, anyone? Seek help from your venue’s wedding planner or follow wedding influencers online for inspirational ideas.
